💡Conversation with Al Gore: Tomorrow

Join us for “The Road to True Net-Zero: Climate Reality's 2030 Vision,” a conversation on July 25 (tomorrow!) with former Vice President Al Gore and Climate Reality CEO Phyllis Cuttino. They’ll share our vision and plan for how we will pull on the levers of power in four key areas that can unlock the transformational changes we need this decade to reach true net-zero by 2050.

There are two sessions – 9 AM ET / 6 AM PT and 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT. Register for whichever time you prefer. The sessions are only open to our community of global Climate Reality Leaders, chapter members, partners, and network of supporters. You will be able to submit questions to the panelists live during the webinar. Sign up for 6am here or 5pm here.

(Quick) Actions to take!

In our last email, we celebrated the victories of The Climate Resilience Package in the state legislative session this year, opening the doors to bringing ~$90 million federal funding to Oregon for clean homes and buildings, more high-paying green jobs and resilient communities across Oregon. (If you missed it, here is the recap from OPB and OLCV.)

Here are two actions to take and feel good in the summer:

  1. Urge Governor Kotek and the Oregon Board of Forestry to advance a habitat conservation plan: https://oregonwild.org/oregon-state-forests-need-your-voice.

  2. Urge Multnomah County Commissioners to take action on the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub in NW Portland:

Issue: The CEI hub stores 90% of all liquid fuels in Oregon, but it sits on unstable soils right on the shores of the Willamette River. When an earthquake hits, an oil spill of the same size of the 2010 BP Deepwater will pollute the river and cost up to 2.6 billion in damage. (Read this 3-min report on CEI Hub on what will happen when the big ones hit Multnomah County.)

    Who to contact:

    1. City Commissioner Carmen Rubio - 503-823-3008 & [email protected]

Ask her to take action on Zenith and the CEI Hub - rescind the LUCS; support other jurisdictions.

    2. Multnomah County Commissioners - ask them to take action on the CEI Hub by requiring “risk bonds” (tank owners have to put down money up-front for possible disasters, bankruptcies, and decommissioning); study of health impacts.

    3. Contact State & Federal legislators: Ask for “shake alert”; fire control measures; spill response capability.
