Breaking News: Along with a powerful slate of speakers, Oregon’s US Senator Jeff Merkley will also speak at the Sun Day Portland Celebration.

In less than one week, Sun Day events will kick off all across the nation. (Now over 350 events in 44 states!) Join us as we encourage a joyous turnout in Portland on Sunday, September 21st!

Sun Day, a national day of action celebrating the unstoppable rise of clean energy and the movement to leave fossil fuels behind. Clean renewable energy is now the least expensive energy source. The economy and jobs of the future will be driven by clean energy. But we are being held back by our leaders and by entrenched interests. On Sun Day, hundreds of rallies and marches around the U.S. will celebrate the sudden spike in solar and wind energy being produced worldwide and demand that our nation join the movement away from fossil fuels.

In the Rose City, our Sun Day Rally will be uniquely Portland. Experience the Portland Waterfront transformed into a celebration of clean energy, with powerful speakers, more than 25 vendor tables, a parade across the Hawthorne Bridge, a celebration of music and art, and a chance to learn more about how everyone can contribute to the Sun Power Revolution.  We will demand a rapid, equitable transition to abundant clean energy and the jobs and economy of the future.

October Chapter Meeting on Agrivoltaics!

At 7 pm Wednesday, October 15 on zoom:  Chad Higgins, associate professor of biological and ecological engineering at Oregon State University, will present on his leading research in Agrivoltaics.  Combining food production with solar energy generation can improve farm yields, reduce water use and increase energy generation.  In a 2023 article, Chad estimated that "converting just 1% of American farmland to agrivoltaics could meet the nation’s renewable energy targets. Making this transition could create new revenue opportunities for family farms facing steep economic challenges."  Chad is using grants from from the Roundhouse Foundation, Oregon Clean Power Cooperative, and Portland General Electric to research solar arrays specifically designed to work with growing crops and grazing animals.  Climate Reality PDX is excited to hear the results of Chad's research, and his recent work in Africa.
