Summer break — no chapter meeting Tuesday August 20th.

We had a great time at our June in-person meeting at the Hi-Top Tavern! Thanks to all who joined. We’re taking a summer break from monthly chapter meetings.

Meanwhile, our committees are preparing for this fall and the coming year.

Check out our initiatives page to find out more about what we’re doing!

Climate Protection Program

ACTION ALERT:

Did you know that the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is trying to restore the Climate Protection Program this year? DEQ needs broad public support to defend and strengthen the program against fossil fuel industry pushback. We, along with other climate, faith, and civic organizations across Oregon, are collaborating with CCEJ (Coalition for Climate and Economic Justice) to get a strong Climate Protection Program over the finish line! Add your voice at the 4 pm 8/21 hearing, or personalize and submit a written comment by Friday 8/30.

Want more information or people to write your comment with? Join the CPP Public Hearing Prep Event at 5:30 pm this Monday 8/19.

PORT OF COLOMBIA

“The Port of Colombia is asking for $2.3 million of public funds to finance its tenants compliance with Oregon’s new seismic resiliency requirements for large fuel storage and transportation facilities”.

“While Columbia Riverkeeper supports these new requirements, we cannot support using public money in ways that would only benefit one or two large fuel-exporting companies. If large energy companies want to use the Port, then they should have to pay for their own infrastructure”

Quick action from Columbia Riverkeeper:

Do you agree that Connect Oregon Grant Funds should be used for public transportation projects, not to subsidize private corporations? Add your voice here.

Manchin's Dirty Deal is back. We need permitting reform without fossil fuel pollution give-aways. Thank our Senators Wyden and Merkley for opposing this bad legislation, and urge them to work with their colleagues to prevent S. 4753 from passing the Senate. We can't afford more fossil fuel giveaways and sacrifice zones.

Volunteer Opportunity

Opportunity to volunteer with the Environmental Voter Project, a non-partisan organization whose goal is to identify "inactive environmentalists and transform them into consistent voters to build the power of the environmental movement." You can phone bank, send postcards, or even sign up to canvass!
